Getting in the Blogging World

This is something I’ve been trying to do a lot of recently, and I think I’m failing miserably. The main reason why is that I actually don’t know what people in the ‘blogging world’ do. Is this where they make friends? Is it a just another social group they’re apart of? A place to have fun and share new and interesting ideas with strange and fascinating people? Or is it just a place where want-to-be writers, like me, just go to get a heads start on a career? Just something to put in their portfolio, I guess. So what am I doing here? What’s the next move for me?

I came up with this idea of having a second blog, but it being a shared blog between me and a few people who I know. Sound good? Maybe. Is that what bloggers do? Do they come up with new ideas of what to say and how to say it? But collaborations are possibly that scariest thing I can think of. My idea isn’t a collaboration as such, it’s just a shared blog; what I write is totally mine, as what they write is theirs. Is there something like that out there for me to do? Maybe…

Following and commenting on other blogs is extremely hard, not because I’m a hypocrite that I expect people to look at my stuff and not vise versa, but because I just don’t have the time. I go to a boarding school! I have exams! I have to revise! I’m shouting because I’m mad at this predicament! Ah!

Another thing I was surprised about was when followers contact you personally. For any of you have contacted me and I haven’t replied, I am terribly sorry. Truth is, I was absolutely petrified when I got the emails, mainly thinking that these people must’ve found out my email somehow, which almost immediately led to ‘they’re going to find me and kill me.’ It’s not a nice thought, to be honest. But then I remember my email is attached to the ‘contact me’ page. Duh!

But I’ve had a bit of an epiphany: all about the blogs and columns, the fictions and non-fictions, the photo galleries and lengthy essays, the humorous rant and the political movement-starter; it’s like all these things (and more) just suddenly became one, and then became nothing…

It doesn’t matter what you do or how you do it. The internet is a free world to do whatever you like; like a playground. If I want to do a personal blog, then I’m going to do a personal blog. And so what if it gets rejected by everyone who reads it; who cares!? It’s my life and they can’t judge it! Not without knowing me deeply.

But I still want to get out there, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’m not too sure how just yet, but plans have been formulating in the back of my mind about starting other blogs and making collaborations and all sorts. What do you think I should do? Let me know in the comments below.

Please Like, comment, and come back next week and read up about my recent thoughts, or check out my Facebook page for more updates.

  1. For me, I am blogging to build an audience for my book and website, so I’ll do posts on writing. But because I want an audience of more than just writers, I’ll blog about my personal life, like my mental health. Sometimes ballet, but the ballet community on here is small. Really, it’s a way to get people to look around my website and to sell myself as a brand. Of course, I also love to reach out to people and want to inspire them in their lives.
